I thought I picked up some doubt and heard "fear" in Ryan's voice last clip I saw of him.
It must be stressful having to perform at that level every race. And he must have in the back of his mind what another 4th place will do to his sponsorships.
Still I do think Ryan's a champion and he will win a major race. Does that mean he will be racing with "Geb" in early November in NYC? If that is the case it would be good for all concerned.
Scott, I remember watching Ryan on Tv having an awesome race, here's this tall white guy keeping up with the best of the Kenyan's. Wow he ran 2.06 I still look forward to the day he he get's it together and does something amazing!
I wasn't surprised, after his shocker of a half marathon in Philly. Canute has written a couple of good posts about Hall and Ritz and their preparations for Chicago and New York.
I don't think Hall will race New York - he wants the US record and New York is a slow course. My pick is London again next year, or maybe Rotterdam.
Ewen, I'd love to see him burn the streets of London alight. I wonder what went wrong with his training, he and his coach seem to be so professional in there aproach.
Not sure that they know exactly. Maybe didn't allow enough recovery from Boston? Too many hard sessions at altitude and not enough recovery generally? "Upped the training" too much? Sounds like some sort of underlying fatigue. Perhaps they should repeat the build-up that preceded his half AR? In my opinion he doesn't race enough (short races).
I know not taking the recommended recovery after London meant I paid the price. Ewen i think your right about the importance of racing in the build up. He has said himself that he likes to train more than race and that can cause problems by looking for good workouts to get confidence, end result can be pushing to hard in the sessions.
I think they should go back and see what worked before London. I really want to see him break that American record, but to set it while racing everyone around him!
