Rick, I very much agree with your assessment of the brain training schedules. The speedwork seems very well balanced, but there is a lack of base training miles, which is why I bumped up my mileage quite a bit higher than recommended in the schedules.
I think there is a second weakness, in that there tend to be a lot of consecutive days with the same miles, e.g. 7 miles on Monday, 7 miles on Tuesday, 7 miles on Wednesday, 7 miles on .... He does do different paces for those days, but I think a bit more variety would be better.
Thanks for your comments Thomas, yeah i think doing the extra mileage will bring good fitness benefits, he does have extra cross training in his program, but you can't beat running miles if you want to be a good runner! I look forward to following your progress in the weeks to come. happy running

yeah i think doing the extra mileage will bring good fitness benefits,
