Lydiard Training Starts Next Week!

I got a reply back from coach Marius Bakken and he said;
Hi Rick,

Good to hear from you and that you are ready for another shot at 2:45 !

I think your plan makes sense. A structured approach with Lydiard, leading into the 100 day plan. Especially as you have quite a bit of experience with the plan at this time and would likely be able to go through it even stronger with a bit of a wider base to it.

In addition to this, pay attention to the self-massage part I talk about in the 100 day plan. This is powerful stuff if you do it at a regular basis.

I wish you all the best of luck,

kind regards,
Marius

Arthur Lydiard was so far ahead of his time it's almost mind blowing, check out this interview below [1996], in the last section he talks about minimal running shoes and how they will make you FASTER!

  1. Thanks Rick. I'll read that over my morning cuppa. A long weekend here :) Good email from Marius. You're going to be his star pupil at London. You ARE a 2:45 runner! I'll be your star pupil when you can coach me to run like Paula ;)

  2. Thanks Ewen,
i think we will achieve what we desire, its just a matter of believing, acting on it and the results will follow through.
I think going through some tough times early this year will lift you up to NEW determination and performances!
Feel your new born energy and you will push back the limits of your mind :0]

  3. Thanks for the article. So is he saying his method is to run the long runs fast or slow? I didn't understand that part?

  4. Well Neil in his books he says run the long run at 1/4 effort, Peter Snell said he did these runs at 7 min mile pace [hilly route]but he was an elite runner.
I reckon around 70% of your max heart rate would be about right.
I'll publish more on this in the coming weeks.

  5. Excellent. Thanks for the feedback Rick. I am looking to do my second Comrades next year, and am wanting to take some time off my previous run. A lot of people reckon to follow the Lydiard philosophy, but not knowing what it is makes it difficult.
    Cheers
    Neil
