  1. Great recovery! He must have used error to motivate himself to give that extra 1 per cent and did not panic.

  4. The worst time was in the Blackpool Marathon with 300m to go, when i got directed the wrong way and lost my 10th place!

  5. Another close finish in NY involved former Southport fireman Geoff Smith - narrowly beaten by Rod Dixon http://lamarathonnews.blogspot.com/2009/02/rod-dixons-1983-new-york-city-marathon.html

  7. I didn't know about that one. Amazing to think there was an open intersection on the course - it wouldn't happen these days.

A lady from my club was known for 'getting lost'. She was leading the Canberra Half one year and managed to run an extra km or so in the last 5k. She didn't win!

  8. That "lady" Ewen... Was that you? And thanks for being a "gentleman and not bring up any of my "stupid mistakes."

  9. No Scott, it was Fiona. Reading between the lines though, I'm guessing you've done another girlie thing (not being able to navigate) by running off course ;) I'm lucky, as I'm always running in the 'fat' part of the field where it's impossible to get lost. Or around the track -- I keep turning left ;)
